OpenAI introduces GPT Store to access custom AI assistants

The Rise of Custom AI Assistants

With the introduction of customizable ‘GPTs’ just two months prior, OpenAI has reported a staggering creation of over three million custom assistants by users. This swift adoption underscores the growing demand for personalized AI tools across different sectors.

A Marketplace of Possibilities

The GPT Store is a marketplace featuring an array of assistants specializing in fields such as art, research, programming, education, and lifestyle. OpenAI has taken steps to spotlight particularly useful assistants, including:

  • Outdoor adventure recommendations from AllTrails
  • Academic paper search assistance via Consensus
  • Coding skill development with Khan Academy’s Code Tutor
  • Presentation design help from Canva and book selections from Books
  • Mathematics support provided by CK-12 Flexi

Accessibility and Sharing

Creating an AI assistant is made simple by OpenAI, requiring no coding expertise. Builders looking to share their assistants are advised to set their projects to ‘Anyone with the link’ and complete a profile verification process.

Usage Policies and Compliance

New usage policies and brand guidelines have been instituted to ensure that all shared assistants adhere to OpenAI’s standards. A rigorous review system, incorporating both human and automated checks, is in place before any assistant is listed in the store. Furthermore, users are empowered to report any content that raises concerns.

Incentivizing Creators

Starting from the first quarter of 2024, OpenAI plans to remunerate US-based creators for the engagement their assistants receive from users. The specifics of the payment criteria will be announced as the program’s launch draws nearer.

Enterprise Solutions

For businesses, OpenAI has introduced ChatGPT Team plans, which cater to teams of all sizes and include access to a private store section with company-specific assistants. Additionally, ChatGPT Enterprise customers will soon receive administrative controls to manage internal sharing and determine which external assistants can be utilized by their employees. It is important to note that conversations within ChatGPT Team and Enterprise content are not utilized for the improvement of OpenAI’s models.

Building on Success

OpenAI’s launch of the GPT Store and the introduction of revenue opportunities for creators are strategic moves aimed at capitalizing on the widespread adoption of ChatGPT. The goal is to foster a community of builders dedicated to crafting valuable assistants for both consumers and enterprises.
